What is Make & Take?

Additional cost of $3/child

School groups may choose from our exciting enrichment experiences that weave together the Cayton’s signature blend of arts education integration and themes of social emotional learning and social responsibility. Each activity is 30-minutes, teaching-artist-facilitated, and California Common Core standards-based.

You may choose one of the following:

Express yourself! Teaching artists will guide students through an analysis of an abstract master artwork and explore how their emotions relate to warm and cool colors. Students will design and create their own original abstract artwork that conveys their emotions through color choice.

Students will discuss and explore the types of buildings that make a community. After comparing the design style of these everyday structures to those in master artworks and architecture, students will use geometric shapes to design an original civic building artwork.

Great for students with a DIY sensibility! This collaborative activity encourages all participants to look at the materials around them in new ways. Students will be prompted to build an ‘emergency structure’ that can withstand an earthquake using only dowels and elastic bands. Students will utilize self-directed exploration and engage in playful creativity that inspires practical approaches to real-world problem-solving.

 Recommended for grades 2 & 3.

SQUISH! Students will gain sensory experience by making their own playdough! Through tactile experimentation, curiosity, and teamwork students will work together to combine playdough ingredients by hand and then individualize their portion with an assortment of trimmings!

Recommended for PreK & TK.

Even at a young age, students have the power to make the world better. By comparing superheroes to real life heroes, students explore what powers they each have to make a positive impact on their families, their schools, their communities, and their planet. They will write letters or draw pictures for a hero in their everyday lives.
